When Bizee's Free Months Run Out, South Carolina Will Not Let Your LLC Cover Itself.

Its formation packages carry free agent coverage for a window of three to twelve months, sized by whichever package you chose. If Bizee is filing your South Carolina articles of organization anyway, those months cost you nothing and save you something. That is a straightforward benefit and we will not dress it up as a trap.

When a free period ends, the first instinct is usually to take the job in-house and keep the $149. In most states that works. In South Carolina it works only under a condition worth reading carefully.

The state's LLC statute sets out who may hold the agent post, and one of the eligible categories is another limited liability company. Another. Your own company is therefore not on the list. South Carolina excluded self-appointment with a single adjective, and it is easy to read past that adjective at speed, which is exactly why owners assume an option they do not have.

What does remain open is the personal route. If a member of the company lives in South Carolina, that individual may serve as the agent in a personal capacity. It also means a person's own street address goes into the Secretary of State's public record, and that person commits to being reachable there through every working day, including the weeks they would rather be somewhere else. So the question when a Bizee bundle expires is rarely $149 against zero. It is $149 against a different provider, or against putting a member's home address on a state website permanently.

The notice needs an incoming agent named on it and offers no way to record an empty seat, which reflects the state's expectation that the appointment is held without a break.
